SOUL SURFER is the inspiring true story of teen surfer Bethany Hamilton, who lost her arm in a shark attack and courageously overcame all odds to become a champion again, inspiring millions worldwide through the love of her family, her sheer determination, and her unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
Bethany was born to surf. A natural talent who took to the waves at a young age, she was leading an idyllic, sun-drenched, surfer girl's life on the
KauaiCoast, competing in national competitions with her best friend Alana (Lorraine Nicholson), when everything changed in a heartbeat. On Halloween morning,
Bethany was on a typical ocean outing when a 14-foot tiger shark came out of nowhere and seemed to shatter all her dreams.
In the wake of this life-changing event that took her arm and nearly her life,
Bethany's feisty determination and steadfast faith spur her toward an adventurous comeback that gives her the grit to turn her loss into a gift for others.
SOUL SURFER reveals the moving aftermath of this headline-making story, as
Bethany fights to recover and grapples with the future. Strengthened by the love of her parents, Tom (Dennis Quaid) and Cheri (Helen Hunt), she refuses to give in or give up, and begins a bold return to the water. Still, the questions keep hammering her: Why did this happen? Why did she have to lose everything? Will she ever feel the joy and power of riding the waves again? And if she can't be a surfer, then who is she?
This weekat Full Tilt we’ll be looking at A Role Model of masculinity:Paul.
The passage studied this week is:Philippians 3:17
If you know the stories in the Bible, you’ll know that there are many figures we could hold up as role models for us-as heroes of the faith. Many of these heroes are models of masculinity as well, and if we want to see masculinity represented to us, we should take to heart the heroic examples of certain men in the Word of God.Most of the men highlighted in the Old Testament were men of authority who bore great responsibility-prophets, priests, kings, judges, military leaders, or leaders of some other kind.Paul is seen as a masculine man, he is a leader, provider and protector.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
February 24th Movie Night SOUL SURFER
This weekat Full Tilt we’ll be looking at humanities continuing rebellion against God’s good design for men and women; we’ll be looking at how to embrace masculinity and feminity according to God’s Word.
Since Masculinity and femininity are hard-wired into how we are created, even non-Christians can live as masculine and feminine to a certain degree. However, we’ve see in our studies so far that through the gospel of Jesus Christ we turn off the path of destruction that our sin and rebellion leads to and onto the path of restoration. By embracing the teaching and instruction of God’s Word and putting into practice what He has revealed, we begin to recover His good and perfect design and live as the men and women He intended us to be.
The passages studied this week are: 1 Corinthians 16:13 and 1 Peter 3:4

This week we'll be looking at humanities continuing rebellion against God's good design for men and women: Homosexuality.
Since the fall of humanity male and female roles have become distorted in several ways. One of those distortions occurs when men's and women's gender identities are such that men or women desire romantic or sexual interaction with the same gender, known as homosexuality. The Scripture teaches that homosexuality is a serious distortion of God's good design. The Central passage in view is Romans 1:28.
The goals of this lesson are to teach the students that homosexuality is immoral, that homosexual desires like all other sinful desires (i.e. greed, lust, hate, etc) are to be resisted, and to offer hope to those struggling with same-sex desires.
Parents Corner:
What makes a young person in this situation vulnerable to falling into sexual sin?
Where in your lives do you receive pro-gay messages?
The Mosaic Law also forbade cross-dressing? Deuteronomy 22:5? What does this mean? Why is it important for each gender to dress appropriately?
How does a person "speak the truth in love”-what attitudes should the speaker have? (love, humility, patience, hope)
Announcements:
This Friday Jan 21st-the girls and guys will be splitting up for the lesson
This week we'll be looking at the continuing rebellion against God's design: Female Rejection of submission. The central passage will be from Genesis 3:16B "Your desire shall be your husband, and he shall rule over you.” The curse of God has left women prone to resisting the appropriate male authority. What are the affects of female rejection of submission? Women were cursed with frustration and pain in the sphere of her closeness.
The goal of this lesson is to reveal the widespread existence of feminist thought and to show how it is hurtful, destructive, and against God's good design.
Examine your heart attitudes toward your thoughts on Female submission.
Parent's Corner:
Here are questions that you can go over with your child/children:
How do parents (father's especially) lead and protect their children?
